Cold Mornings

Just wondering, is it bad to crank right up in the morning, around freezing temps, and drive right on off, or should i let the engine warm up first? I dont want to damage the engine, but I kinda get tired waiting 6 or 7 minutes for the thing to warm up every morning. Thanks for any knowledge.

I get in, start it up and take off. The truck warms up much quicker when I am moving. Just my .02 but I think these engines can handle cold starts. If not then I think we are all in big trouble.

give the motor a few seconds...say 30 or so...all of the oil has drained to the pan and the pour point of 5w-20 oil is not alot lower that freezing. the 30 seconds or so will allow it to circulate to all points of the engine before you start running over 1000 rpm

I do the same thing first thing in the morning unless I am really in a hurry. Only takes about a minute or two. I always do a minimum of 30 seconds though just to get the oil circulating.

I wait for the RPM's to drop to my idle, around 850, then I am off.

Start the truck before you hook your seatbelt. By the time you get hooked up, it's time to go.

Cold mornings are the best time to clock your 0-60. Especially if you have the edge to clock it for you. 2 days ago I did a 7.8 and that is with 285's and a 3 inch lift. Not bad. I cannot even get close to that on warm days, it is about 1 second slower, 8.7 to 8.8.

My warm-up period seems to last almost 2 minutes, It seemed long enough that I had it checked at Ford. They said it was normal. If I try to leave @ 1 minute, it jerks. Gotta be a little hard on the u-joints?

Depends on the temp. At 15f I just start up and give it about 30 seconds and go. At 5 below zero, start, don't rev, sit for ten munites, then engage and go slow for about two miles. At 20 below, I start, and let set for 15 min. Then I move very slow for 5 miles until the tranny and rear end and or transfer warm up a bit.

Born and raised and spent most my live in damn cold climate!

But you all should do what you want to do. You paid for it run it!!!!

Yeah it truly does depend on the temp but like my mechanics teacher told our class its really hard on an engine to like start the vehicle and go right away to school and then shut it off again till later in the day he didnt say like particular engine he meant any engine he maybe wrong
