Is it typical for the 6.0 PSD to take sometime to warm up and barely move when starting up in the morning? The beast can't get out of it's own way when cold. It takes a good 10 to 15 minutes before it drives normally. I have co-workers with Chevy Duramax's who can drive right away after starting in the morning.
The manual states not to let the engine idle for an extended period of time to warm it up, but when I do let it sit for a good 10 minutes, the car is much better to drive.
If it's that cold and won't go anywhere, something is definately wrong. Have your dealer check it out. If they give you the "that's normal" line of bull, go somewhere else and get a second opinion. I know first hand about dealers that don't really care if you have a problem.
Last time the Excursion was in service, Galpin Ford said that it is normal. I had all of the fluids changed and the fuel filter at that time. I need to take the car back for service soon and have second thoughts about using Galpin Ford again. Any other recommendations and service writers to deal with?
Mine had the same problem. I don't know how they can be related but the dealer found the vanes in the turbo stuck. They told me how it effects cold start up but I don't remember exactly what it was. THey replaced the Turbo and now it's not a problem. Still not a ball of fire when cold but not nearly as bad.
After using another service writer at Galpin Ford, Leonard, and leaving the car for a few days, they were able to determine that a few injectors were not up to spec. Once the injectors were replaced, the car feels much better when first starting in the morning. There is still a slight lag in acceleration when you get going, warm or cold, but I think that is typical.
I had the same problem with my 7.3 PSD in my '01 F-250. I would have to start my truck, go get ready for work, and then, 20 minutes later, leave and it would run good. I changed the fuel filter and it solved that problem. Might want to look into that if it hasnt been changed in a while.
