I don't like flowmasters myself (I hate the resonence).
I'd rather straight pipes.

But for a good muffler on these trucks, the magnaflows sound great.
That price isn't to bad(I guess my area has real cheap prices).

I put a glass pack, y-pipe for the duals look w/ 3.5"x22" chrome tips for $140. Believe me I know the magnaflow would be more expensive, but still a extra $100 would be $240.

Like everyone esle is saying, go for it, but get a magnaflow.

I paid $450 for my install in Alberta where everything is pricey. Most automotive shops charge at least $100 per hour labor rate.

It did cost an extra $25 for the Magnaflow 3" to 4" stainless tip. There are a number of options available (check out the Magnaflow website). I went with the 15 degree bevel. Really finishes things off nicely and is welded on not clamped. I once priced a Ford clamped on stainless tip and they wanted $172 and I think that the clamp makes them look Mickey Mouse.

I will try to get pictures on later today. I'll take some pics in the dyno room as well. They did the dyno room up according to Mustang Dynamometers recommendations and it is amazing how little space it actually takes and how clean it looks. Performance Plus here in Saskatoon are serious race car builders and a truly classy operation. Their dyno will handle up to 1750 rwhp.

Note: Just took my own advice and spent a few minutes on the Magnaflow website. Very informative and well designed site. Spend some time on there and it will make you confident that some sort of Magnaflow arrangement is the way to go. You'll also be able to ask better questions when you get back to that exhaust shop.

it's 3" from the collectors through the cats...then it necks down to 2.5"

most catbacks ditch the 2.5" neckdowna and continue with 3" piping out the rear if it's a single in, single out

the single in dual out doesn't need the 3" piping for noise...2 pipes are better then one IMO

Went in to book my dyno time yesterday and found out that they changed their minds and are not going to use it again until spring. By then I will be gone to China to teach so I guess I will never get the data.

At any rate it sure seems to me that the exhaust change got rid of that last bit of hesitation that the tuner still hadn't quite taken care of.

My 06 has two cats, one on each side just after the exhaust headers and consequently somewhat hard to even see. From there the pipe appears to be 2.5 inch, and yes the stock system from the y-pipe back was 2.5 inch evidenced by the fact that the pipe going into the front of the muffler is necked up from 2.5 to 3 inch where the installer joined it to the stock system. It is still productive to let the exhaust gas flow more freely after the restricted part IMHO.

I am coming to the conclusion that you cannot make any generalizations about the exhaust that you will find on an F150. My red 04 had a total of 4 cats, but my 04HD only has the two cats in the same arrangement as my 06.
When you follow the posts about exhaust here it often seems that people are disagreeing when it is simply because, for whatever reasons, their trucks have differently configured stock exhaust components. Should be able to ask Ford about this, but I'm guessing that they would be of no help.

Kind of interesting. You must have posted this question while I was busy typing and I guess I answered it while you were asking it, before I had even seen it.

It's pretty clear to me that you cannot tell how many cats there will be on any given F150 unless you actually have the vehicle right there to check it.
Very clearly some of them have a four cat system and some of them have a two cat system, and why that is I have no idea.

Unfortunately, it is not the same dyno I had for the last runs so I'm not sure how comparable the results will be. Very lucky though to have a Mustang M1100 about 5 minutes from where I live and for $100 CAD an hour (that's about $105 USD these days)

I will post the results once I have them.
EDIT: Saw your post after. Let us know if you are ever able to make a dyno run.
