I gotta address this hassle real soon on my '76. Not having a parking brake in a 4-speed truck is a royal PITA.
Thanks for starting this thread. I looked the cable up once and ran into the same thing.
Um...I don't think that the parking brake applies to the front...
The front cable runs from the parking brake control to an equalizer bar/adjusting nut.
The rear cables go from each wheel to the same bar. This is where the cables are adjusted.
The front cable (in this case) also falls under the serial number break, so...
1976 F250 Regular Cab 4WD >>>
Before Y40,001 takes: D6TZ-2853-D .. Front Brake Cable
From Y40,001 to Y60,001 takes: D7TZ-2853-B
After Y60,001: D7TZ-2853-C

OK.....So, D6TZ-2853-D is the Front Cable 90 7/16" long before Serial # Y40001. But that doesn't state if that is 4x4 or not. The other number I was looking at was D6TZ-2853-B which is the front cable 89 5/16" long for 76/77 Part time 4x4, but doesn't specify seriel #. So, which exactly is the right cable, and will an 1 1/8" make that much difference?

Post #20...the three cables I listed all fall under the same vehicle.
1976 F250 Regular Cab 4WD. All the serial number breaks are listed too.
D6TZ-2853-B = Where did you get this number from?...Not from me...It doesn't fit the application.
FYI: Green Sales has D6TZ-2853-D & D7TZ-2853-C ...but doesn't have D7TZ-2853-B.

NumberDummy, D6TZ-2853-D is the number you specified in your post for the front brake cable. Before I ordered one, I was just looking at my CD and noticed there were actually 2 cables listed under that number 90 7/16" and 92 7/16" both describing Before ser. # Y40001. Then I noticed another number, D6TZ-2853-B which describes 89 5/16" for 76/77 part-time 4x4, but doesn't specify F250 or not. I'm sure your info. is better than the Hipo CD I have, but I just noticed what you said in your post and what I noticed on the CD.
The only reason I had even noticed anything that may be different, when I was searching Broncograveyard for the cables, I just wanted to get everything from one place. They have the rear cables, but there listing for front cables didn't seem right so I looked at my CD. That's only when I noticed a different number. Bill, you know a heck of alot more than I do, hence is why I'm asking. If you say it's D6TZ-2853-D than I'm sure it is. I'll just order from Greensales since they seem to be the only place who has that cable. Sorry for any confusion. I just want to get the right cable.

Aha...now the truth comes out...you are relying on that 1973/79 CD that was scanned from the first printing of the 1973/79 parts catalog.
It was out of date by 1980, and since it was the FIRST printing, information was left out. How do I know that? Because I have the same catalog on microfiche. I only use for reference...I normally don't even look at it. Why is given next > >
Ford updates their parts catalogs every 6 months. You are still using that old old printed catalog.
I'm using the last updated catalog printed in 10/88 on microfiche...where I got the part numbers from. The microfiche slides are IDENTICAL to what the dealers used, guaranteed...because I bought them from Ford last December.
Yep, I went back and double checked the numbers. And I did find the 73/79 F100/150 2wd application if reference to that number. Kind of confusing in finding it, but I did. I guess I need to quit reading into it more than I need to and just listen to your posts and don't second guess. . It's cleared up now. Thanks for all your help, patience, and time.
