i was wondering where the egr is placed on a 93 f-150, i think i have found it. i think its near the rear of the intake, i see atube coming from the exhaust manifold going to it. also where do i block it off at, where it meets the intake? if some one could post a diagram of it, i looked in my chiltons repain manual and hte pics are blurry so i couldnt tell if i was right. thanx
Sorry but that is not the EGR. You have found the check valve that goes to your cold air intake from the air pump to convertors. Your EGR is actally at the front of the intake on the passenger side. It will have a metal tube coming from the bottom of it and an electrical connection and vacuum connection. But yes it does look a bit like the valve you were first talking about.
Hi, If your 93 is anything like my 90 and I suspect they are the same.
The EGR valve is on the rear of the upper intake manifold, with a pipe running to the exhaust manifold. It has a large diaphram on it and an electrical plug and a vacuum line and It will be rusted, it is sort of a 90 degree fitting, held to the intake with two bolts. Those two bolts are what you remove and put a plate between the valve and the manifold. You will require two gaskets and a plate made of whatever metal you choose. Your 93 should not need any block off of the valve doing so will upset the computer and the way it was programed. I personally see no need to do this. I have a 90 with rebuilt injectors and a MSD 6A ignition and the truck runs damn good. This trick probably works for the guys with the carburetors, I had a company 85 van since it was new and it was the biggest pig I had ever driven. I couldn't even get out of its own way and Ford could do nothing for it. It had a carburetor. Then I got a 89 EFI and what a difference. Any way I would not mess with the egr as your 93 is designed to work with it. You can try it but I bet you won't see any inprovement. Its a TRUCK 6 cyl and not a race engine no matter what you do to it. It seems to me that the earlier 300 will benefit from some sort of parts change but the EFI engines are ruled by the computer no matter what you do.
It's at the rear. If you have the manual tranny and want to block it off for the severe stop-sign bog/stall, you'll unbolt the two bolts that hold it to the air plenum, and use a restrictor or block-off plate, then two new EGR gaskets (one on each side), and bolt it together again (make sure you fully clean off the old gasket).
If you have an automatic transmission, or want to mess with it for another reason, it's not worth playing with it to my knowledge.
