Fuel Filter Questions

1. Why am I paying $36 for a fuel filter from Ford when I can get it for $21.42 or a Lubrifinder one the local International shop uses for $16.67?

2. Seems like it is pretty foolproof to install, right? If it doesn't spray fuel all over the world in the first 30 seconds, you are golden. Am I correct?

3. I am using the wrench that I normally use to take off the oil filter. I just put it on the top of the lid and turn. Is that OK or does anyone see any issues with doing it that way?

TIA

1. I have no idea why you are paying more money to the Ford Dealer.
2. The general consensus seems to be a racor filter (OEM) seems to be best, but they can be had for much cheaper than Ford charges.
3. An oil filter wrench works just fine, but one that has a swivel joint that will allow you to turn the handle 90 degrees works better.

1. Because I didn't know better till I saw the instruction sheet that had Navistar written on it.

2. So Racor makes it for International who sells it to Ford?

3. That I have. Just didn't know if I would break the cover doing that.

Yes Racor makes it for International/Ford. I've used that wrench in my 02 for the last 235,000 miles with no cracked lid so you should be fine.

Also, if you buy filters online, or at some local shops, there is a price break when you buy 6 at a time. Of course that's easier for the high mileage drivers.
