Fuel Filter cap?
I am going to autozone to pick up a new fuel filter, and on there website they list a fuel filter, and also a fuel filter cap? Can anyone tell me what the heck that is? it looks like a black round piece of plastic with some sort of seal. Can anyone tell what it is used for, or even if i need it?
thanks

If your cap is in good shape you do not need a new one. If you try and use a 1/2 rachet on the square hole in the cap, you will need a new one,

Make sure you are using OEM Motorcraft filters. The filters are made by Racor, you can get those, and are apparently also repackaged by Fram and apparently you can use those.
The fact that the filter you are looking at comes with it's own cap would suggest to me it's not the patented Racor filter, since it doesn't come with a cap.

Yes, I am saying to NOT use a 1/2 rachet to remove it, use the proper size socket.

What motor? The 6.4 uses a 36mm socket on both the engine and the HCMF.

Actually, it was $27.00 at AutoZone. Pricey for a socket.

Do you normally buy your tools at Autozone? Just wondering, because I don't.

I think the op has a 2001 F250. That was my concern. Don't know about the 7.3 or the 6.0 but on the 6.4, do not use anything that requires a new cap. OEM at least on the 6.4 is gonna always be my recommendation.
