Not to change the subject, but I tried once to put a new oil pump in my 88 and I couldn't see how the pan would come off without pulling the motor. I ended up taking the oil pump back for a refund. How did that go for you?
I use Synthetic, I used it in my 300 and I,ve used it for years in my ford 2.3 in the courier, yeah go ahead and make fun of it 500k+ miles and it always runs 20 below and 122 above (althugh that was one day AC would have been nice) and I use it to haul hay I can put 65 of the heavy bales on a flatbead and it has no problem pulling it, I did blow up two of the mazda five speeds though, and it will out pull the stock clutch. the only time it didnt run was three days when #3 piston exploded, I was doing about 85 out by Tonapah AZ and it just rattled a little and quit, but I don,t think that failure had anything to do with oil. In fact I use all synthetics in it becuase I abuse the hell out of it
Hey troposcatter. I like those Ford Couriers, as a matter of fact I carry one in my truck's tool box as a spare. All kidding aside, I had an 82 Mazda with the 5 speed, 2 liter motor. I ran the the you-know-what out of it. It was dependable and got 28 mpg, but for longevity it didn't hold up well for me. Front fenders rusted out from the inside, 1st trans destructed at 80,000 miles (always 5th gear) by 120k miles the compression was about 98 lbs and the motor was shot. In those days if I went looking for parts at some junk yards, the owner would sneer smoething about rice burner and tell me to get lost.
20w50 is all I have ever run. 206k miles and still going strong.
Don't burn or leak any oil. 92 F150, I wish I could get a "new" 92 and start all over just for fun.
