hey guys, i got a concern i'd like to address. Tonight while driving I experienced a vibration in the right front wheel of my truck i was moving aobut 80mp. It sounded and felt like i was hiting the rumble strip on the side of the road, but it wasn't. I coild feel the vibration in the steering column as well. I hope that the bearing (or bearings) is not giving out on my. I have a 91 F150 300/6 2wd A4od. Any help would be greatly appreciated..
Just to be safe, I would check to make sure that the bearing is tight and that there isn't any play it the rotor. it could also be something as simple as a tire out of balance or an allignment problem. at 80 mph the tires are spinning pretty fast and if one is out of balnce slightly it could show up with that many rpms.
Although if you say that it makes a rumbling sound, I would suspect the bearings,
Actually after further inspection, i discovered that the noise was emenating from the transmission. The check engine light reads a code for the torque rotor clutch, or so the local garage says... This noise only occurs when high demand is placed on the tranny hard acceleration or high speed. Tranny fluid levels are normal. Sorry for the mis-information.:-(
Just because it was mentioned, I'd do like Dr. Ford says and check the bearings, otherwise you're jinxed. I think front bearing are recommended for replacement at 100,000 (I did mine at that time.) I don't have any books around but I didn't know the trans could send codes (I'm not always right). I'd also look at my universal jt, because it'll put out some rumbling noises too and its easier/cheaper to fix.
