I have a 1998 F150 4.2 V6 with 14K. 5W30 oil is recommended but I guess I am old school and prefer 10W30. Is there a problem running 10W30 instead of 5W30?

Mefsh, the newer makes tend to recommend the 5w-30, I guess because of closer engine tolerences. Unless you live in a really hot climate, I would stick with the 5w-30. It will give you a little faster lube on startup, where most of engine wear occurs, and the 30 weight(when hot) will still give good protection under loads. Just my opinion. Don

I always liked 10w30. I beleive that 10w30 gives better lubrication on extened driving and hot weather. I have done an experiment with mobil oil. I heated on the colemen stove 5w30, 10w30, and 20w50. And the 10w30 is much thicker when hot than the 5w30. And of course the 20w50 is even thicker than both of them. I have not tryed them when cold to see the difference. I will always stick with 10w30 and 10w40.
