I have a vibration that gets at it's worst above 55mph and is dependent on whether I'm loading or unloading the engine. If I hold the gas at just the right spot it can almost feel like the truck will vibrate to pieces soon. I have gone right and left to see if a wheel bearing is the culprit but no change. If I put it in nuetral above 55 to completely unload the engine it gets worse. When coasting in nuetral above 55 and revving the engine there is no change. I can fell the vibration everywhere, seat of the pants, pedals, steering wheel, shifter, everywhere. My best guess is a bearing in the rear. Any ideas on pinpointing it would be appreciated. Also putting it in 4wd doesn't change anything.
thanks
my '78 f250 4x4 had same issue, except that the vibration started at about 40-45mph. i finally took it to a driveshaft shop and sure enough. the slip yoke and male end of the driveshaft was worn out casuing vibration and destroying u joints. they did thier magic and no more vibration for me.
If you are cheap, broke, and poor like me, a very short term solution to that male/female slip joint issue is to insert some brass rods(like coat hanger) into the gaps between the splines, and hose clamp them in place. The coat hanger wire will wear w/o eating up the steel until you can get to the driveshaft shop. Your symptoms are identical to the ones my truck exhibited before this cheap redneck fix was brought to bear. Grease it all up well while you are in there, too. Good luck!

With speed specific vibration issues my first focus is always on the tires and/or wheels, it simply may be a tire/wheel out of balance due to a missing wheel weight, bent rim, broken belt in tire, irregular tire wear, tire out of round, etc. i'd start by rotating the tires front to rear to eliminate the tires/wheels as the source of the vibration then proceed from there if need be.
