New Air System

Well, I finally got my larger air tank on the truck. I went from a 5 gallon tank to a 12.5 gallon tank with twin compressors and 80 amp relays. I love it, now I can run my air tools without running out of air. I also found my second Nathan K5 train horn and that will shortly be mounted to the truck. I will post some pictures of both horns and then tank setup withing the next week.

Thanks, Bryan

Bryan, I take it the alternator has no problem running the compressors? How do you monitor the electrical usage?

Yup, and it is loud!! We just got the horn brackets welded in place and everything is done. I am heading to the west coast until the 14th and I will get some pictures up when I get back.

Ken, I have a large Stinger Alt that can handle it great. As for monitoring the charge, I have a digital monitor that is built into my stereo system.

Well, I am off to the airport.

Depending on what you are powering, if you need a little extra power without buying a stinger or equivalent alternator you can have a high output rectifier installed in your stock alternator. The rebuild usually is cheaper than a stock replacement or about the same cost. Please send me pics of mounting locations for the horns and air tanks. Thanks

That is true, but with all the electronics we have in the truck we had to go with the stinger and caps. As for the pictures, I will send them as soon as I get back to Texas, I am currently in Portland, going to Seattle, and then back down to San Jose.... all by Friday.

Thanks, Bryan

Needless to say I havn't put the truck up on the lift lately so I will got out today on the creeper and took some new pictures. We did however get a new dB rating for the twin horns, we are no pushing over 198dB!!

Now with pictures

Well, I figured out how to insert the pictures. I hope that you like them.

Bryan

Here is a profile view of the Quad Nathan K5 horns on the drivers side.

Here is the view of the rear of the drivers side horn.

Here are the twin compressors mounted to a solid piece of metal that also holds the two waterproof 80 amp stinger relays.

Here is the rear view of the passenger side horns.

Here is the profile shot of the passenger side horns.

Here is another rear view of the passenger horns showing how I welded the brackets on. (They still need to be painted.)

Here are the four side ports of the air tank. The two front ones are from the compressors, the two rears are two the horns, the bottom is a drain, the back is for the Pressure Switch, the front actully curves around to the air coupler, and the top is a plug.

Here you can see the size of the tank and the placment of the twin compressors.

Here is another shot of the air coupler that is on the hitch. I have is covered with a tractor hydraulic coupling cover from John Deere. It's nice to run on board air tools.
