I agree with "Just Another Truck" above.. I also think 15-40 is not right for our engines, especially in the colder climates..

There seems to be too much confusion about what romp is. For me, it is the engine barely fires, about dies, barely fires again, about dies. It may romp once or twice or more and in really cold situations it rocks the whole truck. This is very different from a fluctuating idle, and goes away fairly quick but is very annoying and loud.

Since the fuel pump is running the whole time the WTS light is on, I'm thinking your HPOP is taking it's sweet time to build pressure.

Funniest thing, I read this post on friday imagining what a romp is, and this morning my truck romps on start up. I've got new 15w40 rotella and the temp was 0C (that's 20F I think). I should have used 5w40 I guess, but will fixing the ipr work too? worth a try?

I would say it is definately worth a try switching to synthetic. Mine did romp with Rotella but does it more now with the Delo??? I need to make a point of logging my ICP and IPR when cold starting but I am usually going hunting and do not have time. I know the reservior is full so my next step is a datalog and maybe a switch to synthetic. My problem is that it simply is not cold enough here right now for that kind of romping with the 15-40.

Well, its almost ski season here and I'll see how mine does. I may have to do an early oil change 1/2 way through the season and see if that improves things. I just hope I don't have trouble starting when it gets colder.

Tenn, when you gave your description, it sound identical to what I am saying, but i havent noticed anyone else mention this, I am in gear when this happens, I am at idile, but it in gear. It is normally three Romps and off i go.

I have the same romp, even in the summer. If I leave the block heater plugged in, no problems. I occasionally get the SES light flashing (on for 1/4 of a second kind of thing) and then back off. When I check the codes, it is the ICP too high/low. I am going to try the orings on the IPR, and then will try starting it without the block heater. I will keep everyone posted.
