I have finally got my little old Cobra CB installed and found a power tap thing at Advance Auto to hook it up in my fuse panel, but now the hard part...the antenna!!
I do not want a magnetic mount type, I do not want to attach a whip type thing to my rear bumper, I have a topper on my truck so mounting on the bed rails or bulk head isn't possible--anyone have any suggestions?? someone told me recently that there was some type of "adaptor" to install it where the normal radio antenna is?? I know I bought one of those type antennas years ago for my old '75 F250 but that was then and this is now....Thanks!!
I don't know how far you will get out to if you use an adapter for your radio antenna. Make sure your adapter matches the radio antenna to your CB. A missmatch will allow too much reflected power back into the CB and will possibly cause some harm. Also a missmatch doesn't get all the power out into the "airwaves".
Here's a pic of mine, it's the type that doesn't require a ground plane so you can hang it almost anywhere. I tried one of the small ones with a matching transformer that glues to the window, and it didn't have much range compared to the one in the pic.
Do it right and mount it in the middle of the roof. It makes the perfect grounding plane.

Kwik is right! Just drill the hole and be done with it. Everyone seem afraid of a hole in thier roof, but it is the cleanest and best performing location for any radio antenna. I dont have a CB, but my uhf radio antenna is up there.
Ill get a picture tomarro, but you can mount a NMO style base, and antenna on the drivers side, opposite of the AM/FM antenna, It looks real good IMO, i have one there, and two on the roof. Roof works best, I liek to keep the longer antenna up front, to keep it from becoming a danger to low flying airplanes and such lol
I am with Kwik. I have mine mounted on the roof right above the interior light. My CB is also mounted in the ceiling and all the excess antenna wire is hidden in the ceiling trim.
Guys, Hey Thanks for all the great replies!! I am interested in the one that mounts just oposite the am/fm antenna (picture and info please) and what ever bracket that mounts on the mirrors--I have the old brackets from my old '75 F250's trailer mirrors but they won't work with the newer s/d morrors.
I got the clamp on style that go on the mirrors and they put out a great signal. I got a pair of 4 foot fiberglass whips off of ebay and the brackets simply bolt to the mirror brackets. I had to get longer bolts (and stainless) but they worked like a charm. They originally mount on round tubeing but they go on the towing mirrors really nicely. ..Dave
