I have had my truck exactly a week now. Its a 2001 F350 four door longed. 6spd manual. Exhaust, intake, and STC livewire programer. Yesterday morning it took two tries to start, but it was a cold morning, about 34 degrees, so I didn't think much of it. Then about 20 miles out in the woods on a logging job with just me and another guy it won't start. It would turn over fine but just wouldn't fire. The old owner had told me if it had problems starting it was always a fuse having to do with the glow plugs, but I couldn't find any bad fuses. Eventually after walking like 5 miles I got cell service and got a freind to come pick us up. I went online and did some research and concluded that it was probably the Glow plug relay. So I went to the autoparts store and paid 97 bucks for one. Non returnable because its electric. I went back out there and tried it but it didn't work.
So basically I'm not real happy with the first ford I have ever bought. I know there are a million starting problem threads on here but I don't have time too look through them all. What do you guys think?
PLEASE HELP.
It could be a cps problem, when you crank what does your tach do? Also could be an oil issue, on your HPOP res. there is a little plug on the top that you may unscrew and take a look at. Oil should be pretty close to the top.
First of all wecome to the forum! You will get alot of help here.
How is your oil level ? after checking your oil dipstick check the oil level in your HPOP. Sometimes if you park on a incline oil will drain down on it ( loggers always park on level ground right ). You may have set off your fuel pump shut off switch .Can you hear your fuel pump when you turn your key on? Start with theses and check back!
another thing to check: the old owner said if it wouldnt start it could be a fuse. the most common fuse/starting problem has to do with the fuel bowl heater shorting out. try unpluging the conector to the fuel bowl heater (located on the fuel filter housing) and replace fuse #30 (30 amp) in the under dash fuse box. it could also be weak batteries, there can be enough juice to turn over the engine but not start it, try jumping it
You said you checked your fuses, did you just check the ones in the cab or did you check the one on the driver side engine compartment its called the power distribution box?
HPOP res is located under your decorative powerstoke plasic cover. Its about 2.5" wide by 7" long, has a sensor coming out the top left side and the allen screw on the other. Its job it to feed oil to the High Pressure Oil Pump
I checked both fuse boxes. How do you check the HPOP? I took the powerstroke plastic usless piece off just to see what is under there but I didn't see much.
you see your fuel bowl, has a black cap. right behind that, towards you, there is a rectangle box. on top of the box is a sensor sticking strait up. next to that sensor is a little screw you can remove to see the oil level. If you can crank it over to see if the tach moves that will help these guys figure out whats wrong too.
