And about the gears....I think a 4.10 would be fine for a 5.4L. And unless you never see the highway, I wouldnt go with 4.56's.

a little more bite...hmmm...boggers have a little more bite....but you'll be replacing them every 10k. LOL. seriously though I like destinations to. Had them on my DD was getting 40k easy 3/4 ton 4x4. Buckshots don't wear good but have excellent traction, especially the old radial mudders(before maxxis-can be hard to find these days). They are AWESOME in mud. but to answer your question- definitys perform ok but don't wear as good as most. In my experience anyway. I had the ATs on my old truck they didn't last overly long. Especially being 12.5 wide and on the front, they wore quick.

I just installed some Kumho Mt's (KL71's) on my Expy....aggressive looking....good tire size selection....just don't know about thread wear, hopefully it'll be more than the General AT2's they replaced which was about 40K miles. I'll post photo of em in my gallery, I don't know how to post photos in messages yet.

i like the goodyear mtr but i dont wanna spend that much money. i went by pep boys last night, they quoted me $538 out the door for 285/75/16 dakota mts. The service guy was a real space cadet, couldnt really tell anything helpful about the tire other then the fact its made for pep boys by cooper. I stopped by discount tire and they dont have that much in stock in a 285, but hey said that they could order in pretty much whatever i want. rep at discount said he could set me up with s set of khumo venture ats for 500 out the door. anyone like he khumo venture ats? think i should bite on it or go for the dakotas?

I think they're a really good tire. Their Discoverer line has a lot of tread options that would fit most anybodys needs or desires. Obviously the more aggressive the tread the noisier the tire. I have a ste of their ATR's whick I like. On a truck I sold recently I had a set of ST's. They were a little noisey I guess. The only time I could hear them was when I was costing down hill with the windows down. Most of the time though the sound of the headers and glass packs did a good job of covering what tire noise may have existed.

Here's a link to check out the Discoverer line. The you will notice that in their ratings of each tire that a tire that is good in mud isn't necessarily good in the snow.

do any of you know if pep boys carries a dakota mt in 30x9.50-15LT, or the same in a load range c tire? 235/75 would be ok too, either of those sizes, as long as it is an LT or load range c, I haul a lot of heavy loads. thanks.

Don't know about pep boys or their tires, but according to the cooper website, a C-rated tire in the size you need is only around 1985lbs. The LT rated tires and another rated tire called std, were in the 2000 to 2200 range. Not a lot of difference, but some.

load range c will take the loads i haul, that is what i usually use, or LT, just as long as it is a 50 psi tire, load range B just won't cut it, they have a nasty habit of blowing out. i found out the hard way

The company I work for buys alot of all terrain tires. We have tried and used many. Stay away from pro comps. Either we got a bad lot many years ago or something. They cupped really bad after about 15k miles and rotate religiously at 6k. Many of them wore unevenly too. Alignments were checked several times and found to bne perfect everytime.

We have had great luck with BFG, Cooper, Goodyear, and Bridgestone.

My 01 f150 is due for tires next spring and I have been a BFG fan for many many years. I am switching to the Cooper AT3's. They look good and the few we have on our work trucks are pretty quiet and perform great off road.

One of my hunting buddys bought a set of pro comps last year and if he could afford it he was get new ones. He said they just work average off road and complains about the noise.

I don't think you can go wrong with BFG, Bridgestone, Goodyear, or Coopers. Mastercrafts are good too, made by Cooper or at least use to be.
