I cut it off with a sawzall, and bought a replacement "stock" exhaust, and used a 2-1/4" Dynomax SuperTurbo muffler, instead of a stock one. Mileage came back (18mpg mixed driving), and torque/power feels stronger.
I have heard from several people who do a lot of exhausts that for the 300I6 that just sticking a better flowing muffler in the stock piping provides most of the gains of a cat-back system. Hope your truck sounds a lot better now.
LOL...Yes, it does! It still has a nice, mild rumble at light throttle cruising, but doesn't have that "noisy but not going anywhere" sound...Today was the first actual "real world" test for the FIPK. It passed with flying colors. I believe my next mod will be a set of 373 rear gears to replace the "doggy" 308's. I have re-installed my 31x10.50x15's, so the 308's just aren't cutting it anymore. I figure the 373's will hopefully be the perfect occasional towing gears, without too much trade off in mileage, from the 235/75/15--308 gear combo.

You MUST be FAST,
cause you were FLYING,
When I PASSED YOU!
but doesn't have that "noisy but not going anywhere" sound
I hear you. My truck is not fast enough to justify a very loud exhaust. Yesterday I was at the gas station at a busy intersection when I heard a high pitched whining sound like a motorcycle under full throttle. I looked up to see it go by, but saw nothing. Beginning to get puzzled, I then heard a chirp and saw a little rice burner having just shifted gears coming around the corner under full throttle. Sure made a lot of noise. Must have been winding out to about 7000+, but seemed as though the car went by me in slow motion. What a joke! LOL Likely could take that thing with a 300 I6, even with a 3.08 rear end.
Ok, A little late, but here is what my 300 will do. It idles about 550-650 rpm and max's out about 5000-5250. I normally shift about 2500-3000 on a ok day or pull the full 5000rpm on a "get out of my way day" (except in 1st gear I always shift out of it as fast as I can because my engine almost lays flat on its side). not too bad for a 300 I-6 huh. just need more top end now. maybe changing out my 3.25 gears will do that. And the tranny.

I Love My Truck!
I have an electric fan on my 95 300 and it cam from summit for $70 it is a perma cool 16" it also came with a 180 degree thermostat. It does great, cause for whatever reason my truck runs a little better. I added that along with headers and cannot say which was the cause of the increased of performance my guess is the fan but it works for me. Here is an idea I added true dual exhaust off my exhaust manifold, no difference. Then I added the headers, a slight difference seemed smoother. Then I added the fan, at this point for what I have done it is great in my opinion although I had a realistic idea that little or no gains would be made just wanted something to do. Would recommend this to anyone. Thanks
did anyone think of doing there own air induction kit?? im workin on designing one and hope to get it done this weekend, im gonna try to run two hoses of the intake manifold and have it funnel down to one big hose or tube into a k/n cone type filter. i would leave the bottom half of the air box there to draw in cold air to the open element air filter. maybe i will even go with a little bigger tubing running to the bottom half of the air box to draw in even more cold air. it would save me 150 bucks for a fpik kit or other name brand kit. i already have an older k/n filter so thats would be the cheepest part. any idea's comments???
I shift mine at 2000 all the time, but do get that dieseling noise, glad to hear it wasn't only mine. I havent had any power probs with this except steep hills, and i run 33x12.50's under a 5" superlift
phatpharm85, just wondering if you ever did make an air induction kit on your inline 6 that you posted about above. If so I would really be interested in knowing what you purchased and how you fabricated such a kit for your inline. Thanks.
