My 95 250 extended cab 4wd averaged 16 with 65mph and under driving.
My 97 crew cab 4wd is averaging 13-14 right now with 70-75 mph highway driving and a heavy foot in the city.
It has been my experience that a chip and exhaust mods won't help mileage. Your right foot has a tendency to hammer down to take advantage of the new mods!

Most people get between 15 and 20 MPG with your rig. A lot depends on your right foot. You can add a chip + DP and air intake and get a little better than you get now but you probably won't. It's like crack. Too much fun The biggest MPG gainer is speed IMO, I saw 22 MPG @ 55 MPH. It almost killed me to drive that slow but I wanted to know. I urned both tanks at that speed....on the eway.

I dunno I was just wondering I drive a 96 Bronco right now with 5.8L and I get like 10mpg and I wanted to stick with Ford but not a gasser and I heard diesels can get some pretty good gas mileage. It's a 1997 Ford F250 4x4 Crew Cab H/D with 139,000 miles and they want like $14,500 for it and I don't know to much about diesels so I was wondering what the best kind of deal is.

18-20 regularly regardless of town or highway over all with highway driving consistently yielding the higher mpg. I keep it just under 2k on the highway which puts me at an indicated 65 mph.
Early indications are that the 15.6k mod (a la c00nhunter Joe) might be boosting the mileage a wee bit in that I have had a heavy foot since the mod with no apparent decrease in mileage. But, I have only run a tank or two through it so far and more time is needed to get cumulative results.

A diesel engine can easily go up to 500,000 miles without anything major breaking down on it. There's quite a few guys on here that have over 400,000 miles with original parts. Basically, if it's been treated good that engine will last forever.
To choice a diesel over a gas pretty much depends on one thing nowadays. Are you going to tow stuff? A diesel gets awsome milage when it's pulling something compared to a gasser.
