I found that MPG it REALLY affected by MPH lol. Like some others I have seen 21-22 mpg BUT I had the cruise set on 55-60mph. Try running down the interstate at 55 mph and it will make your butt pucker. 70 mph I can get 18 mpg with my 4.10 gearing. Oh and running 90mph+ netted me an all time best of 11-12 mpg, no more with diesel aproaching $3.50/gallon
I get about 20 on the hwy at 2K rpms, 21 at best. Around town, I try to keep the tach below 2K and I can get between 17 and 18mpg. I'm all stock but I'm thinking with prices going up, a new downpipe and tuner might pay for itself in a year. I'm also only 2wd. I have a buddy with the same truck who has a straight pipe and he gets 22 on the hwy. He has 320K miles on his truck. It's really pretty simple:Big foot means big diesel bill. I have never owned a vehicle where driving habits affected the mpg so much.
You can take off your clutch fan and gain morempg and put on an electric fan. works well and you gain a good bit of horesepower. the fan is like 12-15 pounds heavy and takes like 20-25 hp off you. I can get 18 mpg in the city when i dont race around. if i floor it everywhere i get 14mpg city. i dont drive much on the highway so idk for highway mpg.
My truck is a 1996 PSD AUTO and i have electric fans, banks big hoss module set on 100hp (which i'm getting rid of for a ts 6 pos. chip), 4" exhaust, no kitty, with 3-4" downpipe, defuser **** for turning up the fuel pressure which i have only 1/3 of the way on, AEM homemade cold air intake, and soon to be added is my banks intercooler i havent put on yet and synthetic fulids.
i have a question, does removing the crank case recirculator decrease fuel milage, i know it will on a gasser? Also has anyone experienced fuel mileage dropwhen putting the 1.0 a/r turbo housing on? i'm thinking about doing it but I think it'll kill mileage.
i recently took out my big hoss module due to the tranny shifting too hard slaming into gears (too much power) and now i get 16mpg city easy driving.
