You have the muffler, cat, and DPF, not just a muffler and cat like on the 6.0. If you remove the DPF (Diesel particulate filter) it may or may not set a code but eventually it will go into a never ending regen cycle.

BTW: I heard removing the muffler, while keeping the DPF in place, does almost nothing to improve sound.

FYI: Dealers are looking for anything they can to void your warranty so, keep that in mind

There are lots of posts on regeneration mode on this forum. Basically it's the state your truck goes into when the DPF is getting filled with soot after so much driving. It puts more fuel into the system and created a lot of heat in the exhaust to burn off the soot.

The order of the exhaust is downpipe, CAT, DPF, muffler, exit. Changing the exhaust after the DPF won't do anything but empty your wallet, not even an increase in noise. Removing the CAT and DPF will cause problems with the computer and possibly the motor, void your warranty, and your truck will end up in constant regeneration as mentioned above. And the DPF is the reason we have to run Ultra-Low Sulfur Diesel in these rigs. Regular Low Sulfur will clog it too fast and possibly damage it. The only way to get around this is to buy a programmer and wait for a custom tune to come out that will allow you to remove the entire system w/o throwing codes or damaging the motor. Even with a tune a DPF delete pipe will need to be purchased to so the sensors can be reinstalled. Lots of crap on this new exhaust setup, I would recommend doing some research before diving in with a torch.

Innovative Diesel should be coming out with one soon. They've finished testing and are just about ready. I think they will be working with MBRP to make a tuner and exhaust combo for the DPF delete.
