Mufflers?
My experience with mufflers is short. I first cut off the stock muffler and ran a straight pipe. This was great, plenty of power and better gas mileage. The only downfall was that it was loud. So to make the wife happy, I installed a Flowmaster Delta Series 40. This quietened it down alot and I wasn't happy with it. Also by doing this, my gas mileage dropped quite a bit. I have now gone back to a straight pipe and will never stray again
Some people are having good luck with the original 40 series Flow. Check with Monsta and Abendx, they both have sound clips.

Mufflers?
I cut the original out as well, installed a Ravin z55. Good bottom, didn't care for the sound. Right off the bottom it sounded like a v6. Pulled that out and dropped in a Flowmaster 40 Series Delta Flow. Lost bottom, maybe even less than stock! Sounds better, but... no idea what I'm going to do now. Striaght pipe is too loud for my pref. But I may pull out the muf, put a piece of pipe in and try it.
Mufflers?
This is what i have tried on my 2002 Excursion PSD :
1. Removed factory muffler - liked the sound - but not the "flutter" that came with the straightpipe
2. Installed a 50 series Flowmaster - honestly doesnt sound any different than stock - did see a slight increase in fuel milage
3. Recently installed a 3 1/2 exhaust cutout - so i can run open exhaust right after the downpipe - saw a dramatic increase in fuel milage - especially on the tollway. Sounds like a built to hell buick grandnational - only drawback is that driving with the cutout open - with the wondows down - randomly get a wif of diesel exhaust...
4. Next is a hypermax 5'' exhaust - still keeping the cut-out though - too much fun =)
