My aunt lives out of state and has a 96 Ranger 4cly stick 2x4 and she had a CEL pop .So she took it to the stealership and charged her 99.96 to tell her it was going to cost 454.49 to fix it here is what is on the bill .
Customer states ck engine light on E29
eec diag. p1443 canp solenoid and sensor code
part#e2zz-9d653-a cx741
estimate to replace and reprogram is 454.49 + tax
What I would like to know is what is the part ? And what and why does it need reprogramed ? I would really apreciate any help I don't get to play with Rangers to often so I'm not up on everything.
It is a carbon canister purge solenoid. When EEC tells it to open, it lets fumes bleed from the canister into the intake manifold. It is located in the vacuum tubing between the canister and the manifold. Don't know why it would take more then 1/2 hour of labor and the parts couldn't cost that much. A reprogram might be something as simple as disconnecting the battery to reset the CEL and letting EEC relearn. I would try another dealership or service facility.
Some more solid P1443 code resources I've come across, as posted on another Ranger site:
