I cant find anything in my Chilton manual on this, so here goes... I have seen a lot of posts about performance chips, and yes I did search the forums and was unable to find an answer specific to this question. Does the '93 Ford Ranger XLT 4X4 4.0 have a chip in it? Can it be upgraded for more HP? (hope this isnt a repeat question)
Diablosport also has chips, with a really neat feature. They can be hot switched between two custom tunes or you can switchback to the factory tune. So you can have a tow mode perhaps, a race mode, a fuel economy mode, or whatever.
Nope, the beloved ranger hit the trail today for the last time. Got laid off early and got into a financial bind, so I had to off it on a leased fusion to lower my monthly. I tried to talk the old lady into a 2wd XL ranger, but no dice, she said I need to be able to pick up the grand kid and haul my dad to the doc and a regcab ranger wouldn't cut it. I'm getting another ranger, but I have to pay cash, no payments at this time. Next month I'm supost to get a settlement check, so we will see. I'm going to look for my dream ranger, an 88 regcab 4x4 long bed with manual t-case and tranny with manual hubs (old school) Don't care which engine as it will get the 5.0 treatment. I've done all I can for a 4.0, now it's time to stop messing around and just do the V-8 thing. If not an 88, I will get another ranger. However, I'm not going anywhere, after owning 5 of them I still have alot to share and I still love them little boggers. I had done about all I could to the 04, it was time for a new project anyway hee hee.
As for the chip, I don't know alot about them except for the fact that one burned up the computer on my 99 F-150. It cost me 240 for the jet chip and another 500 for a new computer. Jet had sent me the wrong chip but still wouldn't pay for the damages, they did give me the right chip however, but by then I was afraid to install it. That was my first and last experience with chips, I've used engine programers since and couldn't be happier with the results. I'm soured on chips, but know the benifits first hand of a good tune. My bama programer gave me about 15 hp and 20 pounds of torque on my 4.0, I couldn't believe the difference, it was like having a different motor. If you get a good chip, a new tune will make a big difference.
