Ax,
I've been wondering when we would see the GARAGEMAHAUL.... on this thread
That’s one nice garage
I'm just finishing up a mini version, sure is nice to separate from the domestic garage.
I agree! That's the one convenience I didn't put in, and have regretted it ever since. The problem is had I put one in, the building would have no longer been considered an "outbuilding" by the building dept and would have had to meet the code requirements of a "residence" then. I make do with a bucket.

I have everything to "code" anyway...safer that way. Plus, if I ever DID have a problem, burn down, etc, I don't have any hassle with insurance, as you can if you aren't up to code...
Another reason I've adhered to code, is being zoned business/industrial, I can sell it in a heartbeat, if the need should arise, without any "disclosure". I even have several waste dumps, for a motorhome, even though I've sold mine. Someday I might have another. Plus, it's wired outside as well, for any work I might have out there. And, it's nice having water...
I did buy an instantaneous tankless water heater, instead of a tank-type. A lot less to run, since it only comes on, when I want/need hot water. Plus, I have a shelf in the heated bathroom, for all my "need to keep warm" stuff, rattle-cans, etc. That way I don't have to keep the whole shop warm, ever. I do have a 10 X 12 "workshop" that I had built in the regular garage, for build airplanes, 6" walls, VERY insulated, that I keep heated as well, for the 5 gallon stuff, as well as additional storage - all the front end sheet metal is over there, out of the way. That garage is now "mom's", complete with roll around/tools, compressor, air tools, etc, so I don't have to run across the street everytime I need anything, and she can do just about anything she needs to do. The lawn equipment stays over there with the exception of the rider Dixon, which stays in the shop.
i don't know how u work on ur truck, but how does ur butt get oily?
matt
the old fashioned way...tipped my tranny on it's housing, and the front seal leaked!! Then I didn't watch where I sat, when I was getting the brake drums off.
I had an old creeper, that I cut down, and now it's on that, so I can roll it around easily, instead of moving it everytime I move the truck...one wheel broke on the HDC creeper, the very first time I used it, so at least I got SOME use out of it!!
Actually my bathroom and everything else is up to code, but I wouldn't have had to, since we are so far out in the sticks. I don't have neighbors telling me I cant have junk trucks out in my yard or anything like that. I love my neighborhood! I pretty much live in Mayberry! It's really cool!
Kusto- I like that idea with the wheels under the truck tires. That way you can just push the truck around where you want it. Smart! So did you make those or purchase them?
I purchased these at the local auto supply store. They were cheep as I recall $30 a pair. Very slick for moving the truck around the garage. Had it spun right sideways at one point. I can move it around myself as long as the floor is kept really clean, otherwise two people can move it very easily.
Thanks Truxx and RC for the words of wisdom. Never thought about the difference between going longer than wider, might have worked had I not buried my water and sewer lines already......I think I too will go with 220 in each corner as well as running air lines along the bench and a few from the ceiling for hose reels.
I am planning on going with 14' walls to accommodate a lift on one side. I will likely go with two 12x12' doors on the front, centre floor sump and a small 4x8' overhead door in back to bring in ATVs and lawn equipment from the back yard. All of a sudden it seems really small.

Terry, I didn't see ONE SINGLE JUNK CAR on your property!! Just beautiful works of art, awaiting the making....

KUSTO!! My man, it's not too late!! All the sewer and water lines have determined is where in your longer shop your bathroom is, not how long your shop has to be!!! You can still "go long" unless all the lines are on the only end you could go longer...believe me, the difference will be worth it, and even if you have to dig a little bit, if it's at all possible, you'll never regret it...
I have NEVER heard anyone say "Man, I built my shop TOO BIG!!"
