P0320 code with severe jerking!
P0320 code with severe jerking!
Please help! I have a 2003 F150 supercrew 5.4L w/143,xxx. For the last few days it has been jerking me around like crazy! It only occurs in the 1500-2500 rpm range while cruising. As you try and maintain speed or try to accelerate lightly (not forcing the transmission down a gear) it starts to miss and jerk so hard it almost bounces me out of my seat! I haven't been able to replicate the symptoms in Park or Neutral, just in driving gears. I changed the fuel filter and that seemed to cure it. Drove up to the mountains this weekend and on the way back it kicked in again jerking like crazy at the same RPM. It also finally through a code, P0320-(Ignition/Distributor Engine Speed Input Circuit Malfunction). Any ideas on what to look for or try to get this thing fixed? I've had the truck for all of a week so I am still getting used to it, but there is no way this is right for any vehicle! Unfortunetly I only have a 1,000 mile warranty from the dealer and with my trip to the mountains it expires shortly! Need some help so I can decide wether or not to get it to the dealer. Oh yeah, and if I go to the dealer they are only going to cover 50% of repairs. Can anybody help?
Google it!

Check the connection and wiring to the CKP sensor. Be prepared to replace this sensor.

Next, the CMP edge count is compared to the PIP edge count. If the proper ratio of CMP to PIP events is not being maintained (ie one CMP edge compared to 4 or 6 PIP events, depending on engine cylinders) it indicates a missing or noisy CMP signal:

Hello just fishing!
This original post was made by my son for his 5.4 F250 truck. I believe
his issue was unique to this truck. It seems that on his year they had a
configuration where each spark plug wire had a little mini coil on it
instead of a larger coil that served all the plugs and wires. One of
the mini coils had gone bad and was causing the truck to miss badly. I
think it was a 03. . Good
luck in your search. The forums on this site are excellent and and have
helped my solve lots of problems. Just post a question and I'm sure
you'll get some input.
