I have a 88 f150 with a 351w and a c6 tran. Will an aod tran. stand up or strand me on the highway? I can get it for free but have nothing to tow my truck home if it breaks. If not what tran. would i need to look for? And if i do need this other trans. what all would i have to do?
What year is it, and what did it come out of. You want the later models from behind a V8.
They will stand up but need some rework to do so. There have been a number of folks with them that had bad luck, so going cheap isn't an answer with this trans. (some with bad luck didn't go cheap, so imagine what happens when you do....)
I have an 89 F150 with 302 and AOD. I tow with it and I bought a reprograming kit from Baumann Engineering to build the valve body with. What a difference that made -- smooth shifts and firm when towing -- a little hard when not but not too bad. They build AODs for racing. You can find them on the web.
