its had a 400 in it when i bought it, bone stock other than headers and a 600 holley. it ran ok but the fuel pump diaphram let go and i spun a bearing on the way to school one morning. so for my highschool senior project i decided to build a motor for it. out came the dead 400 and i started on a 66 383 comando. most parts came from swap meets or friends since i only worked evenings at walmart at the time. i rebuilt a nice trans for it with a 3000 stall converter. the motor got bored .030, 11-1 flat tops went in (see pic) a remaned crank with .010 mains and rods. nasty racerbrown cam with comp cam lifters. heads are stock with a fresh valve job and a couple new seats and guides as needed. for used parts and a highschool budget its still running strong today 8 years later. never been back in the motor other then changing to a holley dp 750. It still gets the occasional track visit and on 2.76 gears and street tires running out of fuel( 5\16 line on a stock mech pump) it still manages to bust 12 second runs. video link to follow
ok here is the new motor and trans awaiting overhaul, the pistons that went in, the old motor as it was when i bought it, and the interior before i redid it
and here are 2 cecil county drag runs
the quality is **** poor, i recorded it off the tv using the digital camera, i didnt do the origonal recording obviously i was driving, so sorry the movies kinda suck, i will dig up time slips, i think they are in the glove box http://youtube.com/watch?v=wENxXDQ6qwU
the second is alittle better, 13.21@104 almost wrecking at the end of track, there had been an oil spill earlier and it seems they missed a spot....... http://youtube.com/watch?v=te8dfDlOITo
cOOn, that car is just plain cool. Kudo's man. And now for the bad news......you and tim suck! Now I really want some of those headlights!! I never knew such an animal existed. I really like 1 and 3 also. Man, more money to spend. LOL
there is a rep at work who has a cummins, the same one i was talkin bout fuel miles with in a latter post, he has some wicked looking smoked headlights in it. they would look awesome in our trucks and be a huge step-up from the stockers. are they available for old body fords? i have checked ebay and googled them but all i can find is clear euro's and i dont want them
Joe,
Before you buy the lights ride with the guy at work after dark. I put a set of smoked lights on a Bronco and couldn't see at night with them.
Mark
Not to change the subject but have any of you guys found some nice tail lights? I have seen a few but the seem so euro style I would be embarassed to put them on. I thought that maybe you guys had come across some nice ones, simple but nice?
with a black truck I like smoke or black lenses but my rig it white so I ended up going with the clear lenses and euro head-lights and I am very pleased with how it looks, and it is 1000% better visibility than my stock housings at night
i actually saw a set of true smoked headlights on ebay for our trucks the other day but can't find them again. they don't have the LED's or anything like that, just regular headlights with smoked lenses.
