The transmission only uses 5 gears at a time depending on engine temperature.
Cold Engine Temps = 1,2,3,4,6
Warm Engine Temps = 1,2,3,5,6
Blackht620, I want to thank you for the info also as wayback in Feb. 04 when I was ordering my F350-CC-DRW-6.0 one of the Ford tech types told me it was a 6 speed. When I passed that info along everyone said I was full of it. I had also mentioned this in these forums in the spring of 04 & a few said I was wrong.
Now I can tell my "Chevy Loving" buddies they can put it where the sun doesn't shine.
The pattern is the same it tow/haul. The shifts are at a high speed, but all the same gears are there. It will go into 6th, but at a higher speed than it will with the tow/haul off.
Is the shift pattern any different in the "Tow Haul" mode? I was told that it never gets into 6th in the tow haul mode, is that correct?
Shift pattern is the same in Tow Haul and yes it will shift into 6th. The Tow Haul mode holds each gear longer in both upshift & downshift. Can lock the TC in all gears to allow for engine braking and help transmission to run cooler.
