was on a deer hunting trip last week, driving down a dirt road(25-30 mph) and all of the sudden there was absolutly no response at the gas pedal and my fuel light and glowplug light came on. It did it twice within about 15 minutes and it only lasted about 5 seconds each time. After about 5 seconds it seemed to run fine. Then it happend again on the way home from work today. Same thing. I have no check engine light and I read the codes with my X-cal 2 and nothing came up. The truck is a 2004 250 , stock except for turbo back exhaust. Any ideas?
Thanks elkarcher
I'd say it's a wiring harness issue. If you can, get it scanned for codes. I bet it shows nothing. There are a couple of places to look specifically for wear through holes on the harness--usually around the valve cover studs I think. Hopefully one of our good tech's will chime in and be more specific.
I posted recently about a coolant smell in the cab. Took it to the dealer and never posted back to tell what it was. The list was 2 pages long of things they had to replace starting with head gaskets. Maybe my cutting out problem has something to do with what the dealership did.
The other issue that came to mind was the old fuel tank delaminating problem, it was rare, but bouncing down a dirt road could clog and then unclog the fuel pick-up. This was only with metallic, not plastic, fuel tanks. Not likely but...
What was the laundry list of work performed on your truck?
I dont have the list with me but a few I can remember are...
head gaskets, egr cooler, replaced all glow plugs on right side, injection control pressure regulator replaced, fuel pressure regulatorreplaced, control unit replaced. They also said on the list that they changed anti-freeze, tranny fluid and engine oil but when I got it back, I checked the oil and it was pretty dirty so who knows.
