Has Anyone install the cord for the block heater on a 6.0.? Dealer wants $300.00. Cord and Installion. I know the heater is there i just need the cord. Were can i get it. Cheap? And How hard is it to install?
Nick
The cords are cheap. Plugging it in is like plugging a cord in a wall socket and then all you have to do is route the wire. $300 is absolute theft--that's what even I"D call a stealership.
I wonder if the original poster asked the dealer for the price in installing a block heater? That's the only way that I could imagine it being $300.
All 6.0L motors come with a block heater installed. Depending on where the vehicle was sold will dictate whether or not the cord was installed.
As for the cord itself, I have seen prices ranging from $20-35 for the cord from other folks. You can try that particular dealership again, asking specifically for the cord, hit another Ford dealership, try to find an International shop in your area, or do a bit of Internet shopping (I know a couple of the FTE sponsors will have the cord available).
Regardless of where you end up going, I wouldn't go much further than about $35 for the cord.

The cord that the dealer sells is not just a bare cord like the International dealer sells. The Ford one is wrapped in wire loom and has mounting tabs that fit into the proper slots in the frame.. It is much tougher to install than the plain cord.
I just zip tied it out of the way and figure if it ever wears out I will be able to easily replace it.
