V10 vs. 460 vs. PSD

I had a 1997 F350 CC dually 2wd 460. I had a FIPK on it, Headers and true dual exhaust. It got 12mpg. I have a 2000 F250 CC 4x4 with the v-10 and 168k miles. The V10 Definately has more power and better MPG. I get Avg 13.5-14 mixed driving. I also had a 99.5 F350 CC dually 4x4 powerstroke. I had it chipped 4" down pipe, Straight piped, Airaid intake, and chipped and it was only getting 12-14mpg before and after the mods. What I found with the powerstrokes is you either get one that gets good mileage or you don't. It's a crap shoot. I also found a # of people don't tell the truth on the mileage they get with there diesels for whatever reason. I myself would and did choose the V10. It was an economics choice as my V10 gets the same mileage as the powerstroke I had and is way cheaper to maintain and fill up as diesel here is 40 cents higher than unleaded.

I had a 84 F-250 with a 460 that was T- Boned which led to the purchase of my 01' with a V-10.
460 -V-10 power issue is probably a wash, but overall the 01' is a nicer truck in every area, 4 wheel discs, massive, quieter cab, no rattles or wind noise etc.

I have a 99 Super Duty F250 XLT with the V10, 5 speed manual trans, and 3.73 gears. Recently we went from St Petersburg to Grand Rapids, MI to pick up a boat. The truck weighs about 6100lbs and the boat, motor, & trailer weighs 2300lbs. On the way up we got 15.5 MPG at about 70MPH. On the way back with the boat, with side trips we got about 12 MPG. Around town I usually pull a 3500 lb trailer and probably get 8-10 MPG. Good power. It gets better mileage than I expected. I had a 460 in a Ranchero that didn't get any better mileage.
