I'm Back!

Kevin,
Glad to see you back on the boards. We've all been wondering about you. The new wrecker looks awesome and I can hardly wait to be humbled by your amazing amount of progress.
Lets see, since you finished your last wrecker, got rid of it, found a new projects, got it home and all planned out...I have sewn up 2 tailgate straps (sounds a little pathetic huh?)
LOL
Tear it up man!
Bobby

It is nice. Football season is very busy for me so I don't get much time to play. It is over now so I am back at it. I will be getting the truck in the garage tomorrow so the fun will begin.
I do not know much about these trucks. I need to know where to buy parts for these trucks. My truck has a inline 6 cyl in it. Is it a 300 or how do I tell? Can I replace it a freshly rebuilt 351W? I dont know whether the bell housing are the same or not. The 351 came in a 1987 f150 truck. I could just rebuild this engine.
Does anyone know the vin break down for these trucks.
Here is the vin # on the title, and it does match the truck.

Any info on these trucks would be great...Thanks Kevin

Hi N.D.----Kevin has the mightiest TITAN out there and can kick the a-- of any foreign competitor with a single trailer hitch---LOL----I am now cleaning up the old yblock and trans.....The trans has a pto attachment --must have been what worked the towtruck winch or ? N.D.---Can I keep this on the trans and or should I take this off? This is for a F100 truck. The wrecker cab is now ''meadow green'' and ready to install on the f100 frame-----these little trucks are so much easier to move around--haha!!! Bill

The 1964/72 Ford Truck Parts Catalog is available for your truck on CD: hipoparts.com. Shop Manual: faxonautolit.com. Make sure you get the manual that covers B/C/F/N/NT500 and larger trucks. faxon also has owners manuals, sales brochures, accessory brochures, factory data books and other tidbits...for most Ford cars & trucks.
It won't win any races, but you're better off with the 300 than a 351W, which doesn't have the torque to move the beast. In order to install a 351W, you'd have to change the transmission, and driveshaft, fab motor mounts, and do a bunch of other things that'll have you pulling out your hair. There were several optional V8's available (330/361/391 FT engines)...but parts are slim and none. At least with the 300, aftermarket performance parts are available. Disassembly = take pictures of what came from where. Those pics will come in handy when it all goes back together.
Bill...I'd leave the P.T.O. on...oh, btw...do you know what NumberDummy's daily driver is?

I used por15 yellow engine paint on the trans and bellhousing and what a mess!! This crap is like spreading glue!!! I am really dissapointed in this product!!
Well Ksmith ought to have the drivetrain out and down to frame by now--LOL!! Bill

Engine choices
Kevin the 300/6 bellhousing will bolt to the 351W. But I don't think that would be a good choice for a repower, I think the 6cyl will outpull it. The best setup would be to change over to a 391FT if your interested in doing this I have every thing you need to do the changeover , from engine to bell and flywheel , mts. linkage, clutch and assorted parts. Let me know if your interested.

While the 300 I-6 will have more torque at a lower rpm, the 351W will walk away from it.
300 I-6
122 hp @ 3000 RPM
257 ft-lbs @ 1400 RPM
351W
210 hp @ 4000 rpm
304 ft-lbs @ 2800 rpm
These are the 80's carbed ratings. The EFI versions had a little more power.
While the 391 FT is a good truck engine just it isn't as nice to find parts for and you will be lucky to get 5 mpg.

351 vs 300/6
Im going to have to disagree with you on the subject of 300/6 vs 351W
A few years ago we installed a 351W where a 300/6 was in a 75F600 farm dump
what a pig!! . The road speed was better but hit a hill and all you did was shift. Get in the mud and couldn't lug its way out either stall or spin, torque range all wrong. It would be OK for a show truck that did't work too hard. As far as putting a FT in you could always change to a tricked out FE such as a 390 like I have in my 57 F600 Wrecker I even have headers on it. PS I get about 10 to 14 MPG. But this is just my opinion and I don't wish to offend anyone.
