I've been toying with the idea of putting headers on my 300/6. It's a '79 and has whatever came with it stock. Will the intake manifold have to be changed also? Will the headers bolt to my pipe going to the catalytic converter, or will the piping all the way back have to be changed (converter and muffler, perhaps because of larger diameter)?
I've been looking in the Clifford catalog at intakes and carbs, too, but there are so many choices, and it's difficult to tell what will work with what, or what the most sensible choices would be. I'm not looking to race the truck, but I'd like it to be a little peppier.
Toss the Clifford catalog. They are way overpriced and their parts are no better than anyone elses. I like my Hedman headers, and Offy makes an intake that accepts a 4 barrel carb.
i agree, clifford is not a good thing when it comes to saving money. j.c. whitney has the offy intake, which a lot of people seem to like. as for the headers, yes headmans are good, but if youre peeny pinching, look for a set of manifolds off an 87-96 f150 with the six, they flow nearly as well as the headers, and with a bit of porting will flow even better.
I have an Offey intake with an adaptor and a Holley 2300 series 350cfm 2BBL, with the EFI duals, and this thing runs awesome. I also used the DUI ignition, it's a little pricey, but more than worth it. Also, if using the Holley 2BBL, go to the next size of power valve, otherwise it will have a major lean misfire.
