I have removed the bed marker lights and tail lights from my 78 shortbed, now i want to remove the wiring so i can completely pull the bed.
The marker lights run from the back and through a wall on the inside through a rubber grommet. How can i get the wire out without having to cut the grommet?
Its also 30+ years old, and hard as a rock. You might have to use pliers and screwdrivers to convince it to come out. I am sure if you follow the wiring down the frame, you will find an area where you can completly disconnect the entire harness without having to mess with anything else. If I remember correctly, you can disconnect it right under the end of the bed.
The grommet can only be pushed one way. It needs to come out and be pushed from the front to the back. If the right way is the opposite then i won't push it at all.
The grommet is tapered like it was installed by pushinng it from front to back, i'm going to try and just push it all the way through. Working it loose from the metal is a good idea and one i had not thought of. Thanks...
Got them out, Mil1ion was correct. I relized that there is only one way to push them out. A little convincing from a flathead screw driver and they popped right out.
i have removed all of the wiring that was contained in the bed. All i have to do now is remove gas filler hose, the bolts for the bumper and the bed. Man those bumper bolts are on there...
Is removing the gas hoses pretty straight forward or are there any tricks to it?
BTW... I think i have the original spare tire, i removed that as well. There is no name on it, the tread is brand new on it. All it says on the tire is steelbelted radial tire. Could this be the original spare?
Without a pic, I couldnt venture a geuss. irreargdless, I would deposit it into the dumpster.
(actually, that is illegal.) Go to a used tire store, buy a used tire, leave that old one there, or put it on ebay, somebody might want an OE tire that is 30+ years old for a restoration.
