I have a 1986 300 L6 with a mild cam and a four barrel intake manifold, what is the best size carb to go with.

Thanks,
mooney

I'll second that, the 390cfm 4bbl for the six is the best mix of performance and economy. a L6 doesn't really need much more than that.

The 390 tends to flood them a little. I would throw on an adaptor and a 350 2BBL. Actually, I did. I get power all the way to 5500rpm, so there is no starvation, either. Plus, it is half the price of the 390.

Hey Jared,
Did you just slap the 350 cfm on there or did you do any tuning at all? Also is your engine stock other than the manifolds and carb? I also saw somewhere that you have 2 inch duals, does that make it sound like a bumble bee?
Thanks
Josh

Also is a factory Autolite/Motorcraft 2150 adaptable to a 300? i'm talking one for like a 390 FE so it will flow better. Also where could i pick up a 2bbl adapter for my 1bbl mount? are these even made commercially??

[updated:LAST EDITED ON 04-Dec-02 AT 01:02 AM (EST)]My engine is built for torque. It will walk over anything with a 3000# boat behind it like nothing. I have a stock cam (better torque than "performance"!), ported and polished cylinder head from a 240, 9.5:1 compression, dual EFI exhaust manifolds, and the Holley on an Offey intake. This thing has power from idle-5,500rpm. I didn't port it agresively, mostly just opened it up in the bowl area, shaved down the valve guide areas, and gasket-matched the ports. I also managed to pass emmissions without cats. I have Dynomax mufflers on it, so it sounds decent. More loud than anything, not at all like a ricer. A nice deep, open sound. Kinda like "here I am, arrest me!"
There is no adaptor available for the 1BBL. That would be kinda pointless, and the carb wouldn't work right. At wide throttle angles, it would run lean enough to cause serious damage, as the restriction from the 1BBL flange would kill the vacuum signal.

One more question Jared,
I would like to know what jets and power valve are in your carb. I am trying to get the specs on a tuned carb close to what I am doing so I will know sort of where to start from. Also what air cleaner are you running and I am curious if you can hear any intake rumble when you get on it.
Thanks
