Huh? No one pulled my chain and I'm not mad, I'm just stating the obvious. I AM a huge fan of the 400 and that is why I defend the motor. I also believe you can build it to suit many needs. I don't understand why people feel it is JUST a truck motor. It's not and it was not installed in trucks for the first 7 years of its production life. I also don't understand why you can read on forums why it's OK to build a 408" stroker Windsor for a car or truck but if you build a 30 over 400 it has to be a low speed low expectation truck motor. I've been on the forum for several years now and I read guys telling people how they should build their 400 and the combos are very similar regardless if the motor is in a 72 Torino or a 78 Bronco.

As for you question on the solid lifters, danlee was correct so there wasn't anything to add to his statement. I don't think you will gain much from going to a solid cam. Your build is a low rpm build as the 2V heads and Performer intake will be all done by 5000 rpm. You are restricting the cam bearings to crutch up the reduced oil flow to the rear main bearings. That has only been an isse with high rpm motors and poorly built poorly maintain engines.

What I did with my motor is I spec'd my main bearing clearance on the large side of the factory specs and I cleaned up the lifter valley and heads to aid oil drain back. I also rodded out all of the oil passages which I know some guys just don't pay attention to when they rebuild a motor. Finally, I use a large Canton road race pan with windage tray and crank scraper plus a high volume oil pump. I'm running a hydro cam and the motor has lived for several hour worth of hard dyno time. I didn't get crazy because I don't buy into the theory that the Cleveland oil system is horrible. Does it need help in a 7500rpm motor? Yes. But keep the motor below 5500rpm and it will live longer than most people give it credit.

Haha, funny you mention: I have the Aussie Boss 302 GT as my desktop image! Awesome car. Why does Ford refuse to build something like that here?
I mean, they can beat Ferrari for Pete's sake! And they don't need to cost what a Ford GT costs, either...
