I assume you are talking about the drag strip. I have a munual system so that idea is out. It is 4x4 or 4x2 from the start to finish. AFAIK, nobody changes that on a run ESOF or no. I could be wrong.

Yep, they leave it in 4hi. Even if you hit the button to go back to 2hi, it wouldn't do it until you backed off the throttle after the end of your run.

Leaving in 4 Hi is the only way to get a decent run, that or Slicks, put it in 4 Hi, Bump in to the Prestage light (top bulb) Hold the brake and build some boost and then bump in to the staged light (both top bulbs will be on) WAIT for the tree to activate, When the tree starts down hold the accelerator to the floor, realease the brake and leave on the second yellow, if you wait until green your way LATE! Have fun!

and make sure you got some pampers on.. First time will scare the living crap out of you if you've never drag raced before.. It's amazing what boost will do once your release the brakes.. Much like snapping a rubber band off your finger.. :-P

I actually do kick my back out of 4wd, tried it both ways though and doesn't seem to make much difference at he big end but I can guarentee you it makes a HUGE difference at the start. tried a 2wd launch, my et was .600 slower and my 60 foot time was about the same slower a 2.560 60ft vs averaging around 2.0# with 4x4 launch, what this tells me is having it in 4x4 isn't costing as much at the big end as you would think.
One note though, I am running 1/8th mile not 1/4, might make more diff in a 1/4 mile track IDK.

If I try to launch in 2wd I can't get but between 13 & 15# boost before my tires start spinning. In 4wd I can get up to 20# boost to launch. But things start flying out of the dash pocket real fast. These trucks are tuff, and I have drw.

Is the transfer case disengaging when you switch out of 4wd? I didn't think about that. Don't matter if the hubs are still locked, hummm or does it?

No, the transfer case does not shift out of 4wd. I tried it once, flipped the switch right after launching. After crossing the finish I actually heard it unlock when it slowed down to under 49 mph. There's just too much power to allow it to unlock when you are racing.

Also if you are still running the stock auto hubs, make sure you manually lock them. Relying on the vacuum lock when drag racing will significantly up your chances of destroying a hub. Turn them by hand to the lock position to keep them living longer.

I think I will start doing that pocket. I have not had any problems with the auto yet, but it would take one time to make a mess of the front end. Thanks.
