you need decent back pressure to get torque less back pressure will bring up your HP but torque is a result of backpressure if you want the best bang for your buck do a cat back exhause with a hi-flow cat and i would say that 2.5 inch single pipe would give you good backpressue. truth be told a cat back even with a hi flow cat will only improve sound and maintain power if you want to gain power do a full exhaust with long tube headers and a high flow cat with cat back exhaust.
what about str8 pipes on my V10?
I put a flowmaster on there and it is still quieter than my wifes ranger!
I have been thinking about str8 piping it from cat back, oh and getting that ebay y pipe...
any input?
The fact is that if you change one or both, it will drop your stall in your converter. This will help you with gas milage, if you get a stall converter that is just over stock to compensate for the loss of stall, You will see the out-put that you are seeking.

I've noticed that my Borla catback did nothing for sound. I am inclined to think the stock cat does a lot of mufflling.
I thought about replacing the cat with striaght pipe (redneck, I know), to help with the "sound", but the reason I haven't, is I don't want to lose the scavangeing effect by opening up my exhaust too much...and ultimatley lose low end torque. It's not a race car, but would it be effected the same way?
Same deal with the eBay "Y", (pictured below), sounds great and I could use MPG help, but won't I lose low end torque? Really like to do both...
Really fishing here, but has anyone done the eBay "Y", cat delete (straight pipe), all with a nice catback? What were the effects?
