As far as dotonation is concerned, there are a million and one things that can and do happen to a well built and tuned engine that causes it. I for one will use the correct parts to insure my motor will withstand some detonation and the rattle associated with it. As for the rest of what you said, I guess me and almost every other performance engine builder in the world are complete idiots. Thanks for the lesson. However I'm sure in the future (as in the past) I'll stick with proven methods.

Yes, but that doesn't mean one should rely on your "correct parts" as their margin of safety. That was my point, which I think got lost after you perceived that I insulted you.

Again, I haven't insulted you nor have I called you an idiot. There is nothing wrong with building engines in a "traditional" manner. In doing so, there is one set of compromises - some of which you were kind enough to present in this very discussion.

My recommendations exchanges most of those compromises for different ones, and that's what I thought this conversation was about, and why to met at least, was rather interesting.

I am disappointed however that going against tradition is deemed as "bad".

It's just different.
