I am sure you are kidding about dumping your oil back into the ground where it came from, or at least I hope your are? Up here in Canada we follow government guide lines to to insure proper disposal of waste materials, maybe this is why California buys there water from us LOL.
I know he was kidding because everyone knows the proper way to dispose of that oil is in the storm drain where it can wash away with water runoff.
I use my waste oil to oil my tools after using them. Disk, plows, box blades ect.. Keeps them from rusting when not in use. The waste oil is also good for burning stumps and trees after clearing fence lines and land.
"Let me state this more clearly -- I'm with both of you. But sometimes, you just have to belch that big sooty cloud, when appropriate"
Good morning all, way to keep the thread going, do you all not sleep? LOL
I have troubles trying to decide when your joking or not izz, if you read your statement it is very contradicting??? Am I the only one who is confused???

Yeah, I know it's hard to catch sarcasm with the written word, that's what the smilies try to simulate I guess. Anyway, no I don't think it's confusing at all. Running easy 99% of the time is better than belching clouds everytime. I did do some short research on this, and there is a huge concern by the tree-huggers about diesel soot, even though it is particulate and does settle. It is bad to breath it (DUH!!!!), and it is known to the State of California to cause cancer (so's bacon grease). The biggie here (at least to me) is the diesel put out MUCH less CO (Carbon Monoxide, not Colorado) than gasoline engines which is of course a Greenhouse Gas. I'm comfortable with my occasional soot cloud with respect to the amount of CO I'm putting out. Remember, I try to run 100% BD when I can (honestly, I'd run it 100% of the time if I didn't have to drive 15 miles out of my way to get it!!), and here's a snip from biodiesel.org about BD exhaust:
"Biodiesel is the only alternative fuel to have fully completed the health effects testing requirements of the Clean Air Act. The use of biodiesel in a conventional diesel engine results in substantial reduction of unburned hydrocarbons, carbon monoxide, and particulate matter compared to emissions from diesel fuel. In addition, the exhaust emissions of sulfur oxides and sulfates (major components of acid rain) from biodiesel are essentially eliminated compared to diesel."
So you see, I do my part. But that still doesn't change my stance that sometimes, a nice windshield of soot is just what the idiot tailgating you needed.
For the record, I'm on Dave's side of the fence. I like power, but hate a big sooty cloud of smoke to make it. It's the reason that I don't run a tune any higher than Tow/Haul, the higher ones belch a big cloud.
It's VERY easy to program the ECU to follow boost and add fuel when appropriate.
[I wouldn't want to clean off that soot from that beautiful coach behind you every time it got pulled either! I would guess a fair amount gets on it anyway; mine has some when I pull it.

Okay, okay, you got me on that one, that is the exception to the rule LOL
As you can tell I am totally against "wanting" more black smoke than is necessary, to have it is one thing but to want more is another.

lol.....exactly. That's the beauty of the DP Tuner -- you can intantly go from 80 Econo to 140 "Smoke Machine" at the touch of a finger when you need it!!!
Headed to lunch -- gotta do my part to contribute to the supply of waste-oils...

exactly, my problem when i first did injectors was that i was blowing smoke everytime i hit the gas without a chip (and with a chip in the bigger tunes) and yeah the smoke looked cool but i didn't want it all the time.. only when i WANTED it.. aka luggin the engine to churn some smoke to get those tailgaters off or whatever!! but now that i did my intercooler in the 2nd highest tune it's one big puff and it clears up to almost nothing.. in the BIG tune it's one big puff and clears up to a thick haze... i'm hoping that once i throw on a new turbo it clears 99% of it up and just leaves a haze... or nothing...
Let me state this more clearly -- I'm with both of you. But sometimes, you just have to belch that big sooty cloud, when appropriate.
"It's a diesel thing -- apparently, some don't understand".
(Sorry, I had to)
I agree, it would also be great to blow a load of soot in the window of the next idiot that pulls up next to me with his/her (c)rap music blaring and rattling my truck!! I hate that crap.
OK my 03 Dodge, 500HP and no smoke from take off or with my foot down on the freeway, I use the Super B Single Turbo. If you do not believe that, we had an 06 Dodge at our last BD Days Day event on Saturday. It put 707HP to the rollers with a Super B R700 Twin Turbo kit, again no smoke at 700 plus HP. There was about 170 people at the event that seen this if you need clarification.
So, I realize this is a dead topic/long time ago. But, I was actually there, and your right, there was little to no smoke. Great time by the way, had a lot of fun and was cool to meet you guys. See you at the next one!
P.S. I might actually bring my truck around the front this time, last time I was about the most stock truck there, and didn't want to be laughed right outta there and back into my own country...LOL
I have a 99 F 250 7.3 Extended Cab. I want it to smoke, it has a chip from summit but dont know which one it is. Is there any thing else i can do to make it smoke

Sorry we sell power, not smoke, have you tried restricting your intake, that will surely reduce your power and increase smoke?
