I have bought a 1993 F-150 4x4 and the guy stuck a computer out of a 1988 ranger bronco V-6 in it. It is not running right at all. It has the 5.8 in it can anyone tell me what computers will work in it.
See if you still have the emissions sticker on the radiator. If you give the Ford dealer that number they need, they can probably tell which computer you need. There are several versions for that engine, that year.
^^^ Yeah, do that. I would think at the very least, another 1993 with a 5.8L V8.
But WOW - A V6 computer running a 5.8L V8 - it doesn't seem like that would work at all, much less 'not running right'. I can hear it now - "Well, we just piggybacked two 4 cylinder ECU's and the V8 runs great!!"
If it were me, I would minimize any running time on the V6 ECU as you don't know what fuel it is dumping in or what outputs it is sending to your sensors. You'd hate to melt down the catalytic converter, or have that V6 ECU send a 12 volt jolt to one of your sensors if the pinouts happen to be different.
Thank you guys very much for your help. i got it working right with a computer from a HO 302. when i talked to a Ford tech he told me that it had to have the same firing order and be of the V8 famliy Because of it having the E4OD trany and all of the shift points are contoled by that computer.
