Unhappy Posting Problem

My computer at home only has a lowsy 56k modem on it. When I want to post, never lets me on that computer. The computer is really nice and up to speed, but the 56k is what sux!

BUT, if I go down the road to my parents house, they have Cable on their computer. I can post all day on it. Does anyone know why this is?

I just thought of something. I was trying to register on another forum. I would fill out the info and when I hit sumit, it took me back to where I started. I finally used my old computer to register and then I was ok on the new one. I think it is something in your computer but what I don't know.

I usually get between 45 and 49.2. I think it might be my internet provider. TXU service... My wife has the same problem trying to log into her college website for classes on the internet. It's either my internet provider or something with my computer, but I don't think it's the comp.

Wow.... ever since they cranked up the cap on our cable modem network bandwidth is way up. 6.2 megabits/sec. I'll never go back to DSL (about 1 megabit/sec)

When roadrunner first came out it was great. My 10BT network was getting maxed out at about 1.2 megabytes (not megabits) a second. Since they capped it down to like 250Kb/sec. In Korea my DSL is capped at 120Kb/sec. My new charter connection was capped at 33KB/sec but now is up to 320KB/sec. Cable modems are far superior as far as max bandwidth goes but its all about how much your provider is willing to give you.

How far is your parents house? You said "down the road" If its not that far, I could give you some suggestions to building a wireless network that would let you get the reception of having the cable modem in your house...at a fraction of the cost > (initial investment...and then nothing...and cancel your dial up service and leech off 'rents!)

There's also a reliable one I've used at www.2wire.com -- go to this website and click the "Test your broadband speed" Although based on the "broadband" I guess this works best for high-speed guys.

Chado:

My parents house is about a half mile down the road.

Here's the wierd part of it all. I can dial-up, open the page, and then login with my name and password. It accepts me and gives me the "Thanks for joining us" message. Then, when I try and post or reply, it says I'm not logged in. So it automatically brings up the login screen. I do it over and again, and it brings up the screen that you post your reply on with smilies and all! When I'm done and click "Post Reply," it does the logon thing all over again. It's Driving me NUTS!
