Am installing rebuilt pre-80s 300 I6 (Duraspark)into 86 150 (300 I6- TFI). Not sure what, if any, of the existing wiring to keep, and what to leave "unhooked". Have Duraspark ignition module, but not sure if it is the correct one to use. It has been painted and can't tell if it was the "blue" one, and it does not fit the connector coming from the Duraspark distributor (black, orange, purple wires). Module has two sets of leads coming out - one has red and white wires, other has black, green, purple, and orange wires. Do I have the right module? Which coil do I use? 86 coil has existing leads, but are these still tied into the computer somehow and would not work with the Duraspark setup? Have coil that came with engine (round, cylindrical), but not sure how to hook it into this *******ized system. Seem to remember previous posts saying that this was pretty simple, but I am stuck at this point, and can use some "expert" help.
You have the correct module, but I had nothing but problems with my retro-spark system in my 84. I wound up saving my pennies for a DUI system, and have had nothing but good luck with it. Drop it in, hook up one wire, and go.
I give up - what is a DUI?? I still have the distro setup from my '86 and could re-install, but thought the posts I had seen favored going back to the Duraspark, over the TFI??
Also, read the post on your I6 for sale. Never did find a listing though (location??). I bought mine on eBay eight months ago. I live in VA and only had to go 150 miles to MD to pick it up, otherwise, I would have been one of those that both mine in the local paper or having it rebuilt locally.
www.performancedistributors.com
It's a GM HEI distributor, with the shaft modified for other engines. I really love the one in mine, and may make the same investment on the new engine. One for a 300-6 is $379 c.o.d., I know it sounds like a lot, but it is well worth it.
Hi, I am the guy you bought the engine from (Art). There are pictures etc on my gallery. That eng ran great with a MDS 6a. Be careful that eng has very low milage. It was just breaking in befor I sold it to you. Go to their web site, there is a lot of info . Also call their tech assist. The connection is very easy and a complete set of configurations come with the unit. The dist in the six was hooked to the MSD 6A
Doe anyone have any REAL information on this subject? I'm about to go outta my mind trying to figure out how all these diagrams pertain to my truck trying to convert it to DSII.
