sticking choke

got a new carb on 86 F-150 300. truck was dormant for 2 weeks while other things were being repaired. driving it for first time today - seems to want to throttle up when clutch is pressed or anytime i let off the gas. if i'm not mistaken, the choke can be adjusted. i'd appreciate any tips or suggestions. choke is electric ( or whatever the term is). thanks.

First of all make sure that you are getting voltage to the choke cap while the engine is RUNNING and that the choke heat tube to the manifold is hooked up. When you think your truck is idling high, pull the air cleaner and rev the engine up a little by hand and also open the choke fully by hand, Now release the throttle while still holding the choke fully open. The carb will now not be on fast idle which means that if your idle speed stays the same then you need to adjust the hot idle speed (curb) idle screw. If the engine idles down then either adjust the fast idle cam stop screw or loosen the 3 screws on the black choke cap and lean it slightly, when your engine is fully warm you should have the black choke cap adjusted so the choke plate is fully open. Hope this helps. Take a second to study how the choke linkage/ fast idle system works and you'll see its pretty simple and you can figure out what to do.

I'll be checking out your suggestions in the A.M., Boss. Just so we're all on the same page;

while driving, it seems that the accelerator don't want to release and I stay at a high rev (3000 or so). If I nail the pedal a couple of times, it'll drop back down to normal idle only to do the same thing when I accelerate.

the truck will idle in the same manner without warning.

the choke is new (came w/ carb). inspected throttle cables, etc. - all cool.

regardless, i'll still be checking out your tips. Much obliged.

advice was essential. everything's cool now. had to more or less adjust the whole carb. seems as if it was not pre-adjusted, as I believe most come. forgive the ignorance if i'm wrong there, wouldja
