Sport Trac, 150,000 miles and need service

Hi,

I have 2001 Ford Explorer Sport Trac (4.0L SOHC, 4X4, Automatic) and I am nearing 150,000 miles. About a week ago the check engine light came on, throwing P0171/P0174 (lean banks 1 and 2) error codes. After spending a few hours trying to fix this myself (thanks to the advice of other posters here), I am still getting the error codes. So far I have:
  • Replaced the fuel filter
  • Replaced the PCV
  • Cleaned the Mass Air Flow Sensor
  • Replaced a damaged piece of vaccuum tube
I am still getting the check engine light and am thinking it is time to bite the bullet an take it in for service. Do I need to clear the code to make it go away or will it automatically turn off once the issue is corrected?

If I do have to take this in for service, given the amount of miles, is there anything else I should have checked out while it is there?

Thanks for any advice you can give.

pull the battery cable off and wait 15 minutes. reinstall and see if you get the code after startup. look for another burnt hose around the EGR valve possibly.

If the codes are cleared, and it's running OK, what type of service are you going to ask them to do? Maybe plugs, wires, and new filters?? Trans flush? Change differential fluids?

I have done a lot of work on the truck this year, so forgive me if I start to ramble.

In April I had what appeared to be an electical issue that resulted in me replaceing the alternator and iginition pack, only to find out the fuel pump was shot, so that was replaced too.

Over the summer I did the brakes and cleaned and reoiled my K&N Air filter.

Fuel filter, PCV valve and Vaccuum l ines were just replaced, and the radiator was flushed.

Well with the codes cleared, I am thinking of doing 2 new tires and maybe a tune up. I do my own oil changes and just flushed the radiator.

My question was more to the point of is there anything I should be watching out for with the Sport Trac as I hit that 150K mark. I had the tranny rebuilt (under waranty thank God) around 60K, and seems to be running smooth. I have seen a number of posts about timing chnage issues and wasn't sure if my 01 Sport Trac was one of the engines with the inferior parts.

I was also looking for advice on any real world experience people have had with their Explorers/Sport Tracs around that mileage marker and what preventative maintenance measures they would swear by at this pint.
