I have a 1997 4x4 and the only modifications on it are a three inch down pipe and an Edge Tuner (it came on the truck). The truck has 149,000 on it. I am running the tuner at the lowest setting as I do not have a pyro gauge.
I have two check engine codes coming up. When I clear them, they reappear as soon as I crank the engine. They are:
1-Exhaust Back Pressure Sensor Circuit Malfunction
2- Turbo Boost Sensor A Circuit Low Input
Does anyone have any suggestions or experience with fixing these problems?
the first is a po470\478 i assume. thats nothing to worry about. it has no effect on the engine. its the exhaust backpressure valve just after the turbo. your sensor and tube are bad. the sensor is located right up ft at the high pressure pump resevoir-has a 3 wire connector the same as the icp sensor. the tube runs out of the sensor and into the right exhaust manifold.
the second sounds like the map sensor had a bad connection or somebody unplugged it at some point. make sure the senosr is grey then clear the codes and see if it comes back
I checked the codes using the diagnostics on the Edge Tuner and it does not return numbers, only the description. Dennis at ITP Diesel said the same thing you did. I think I will order the parts from Ford on Monday and replace them.
Where is the MAP sensor located? I have never had to deal with this before. Also, will those problems effect the engine performance?
MAP sensor is located in the passenger side on top of the HVAC box. it has a 1/4 rubber line running to it. try running the truck once with the connector unplugged. if the truck runs better you need a new sensor. if it doesn't run better you may have other issues like low boost.
C00nhunter:
Does the MAP sensor attach to a Y shaped bracket over the heater box? I checked it based on where you told me it was and found that there is no sensor there. I did find an unattached 1/4 inch hose and unattached wiring harness. I miss my old 6.9 sometimes or I guess I should just admit I don't know much at all!
Thanks for sharing all you know with the ones of us that need help.
I just bought the truck about a month ago from a guy who said he was the third owner and it checked out with CarFax. All he had done to the truck was add the Edge tuner. It looks like someone took the sensor off for some reason as one of the mounting screws is still in place. He may not have even known it was missing. I plan to get one ordered from Ford on Monday.
WOW that is a first! boost leak and no sensor. I acidently ran my truck with the hose unhook and I thought I traded it in on an IDI but atleast the connector was also undone so your truck ran on preset readings.
Hey look nobody stole my sensor! well that pic is old better go check! there is a thief about! I still can't beleive that truck did even have the MAP there! that kills me!
