Porting the split manifolds can be done with a dremel esque tool with a die grinding attachment. or just a die grinder itself.
while' you've got the exaust manifolds off, i would port the head some too, so that it doesn't have that much of a thermactor hump in the exhaust port and allows it to breathe a little easier.
Thats the problem with the big six, it doesn't breathe very well. if you've also got the intake off, i'd port it and the intake ports some too. just don't go crazy with porting.
But don't port the head while it is on the engine. Actually, all you can do with the valves in place is gasket match. To properly port and polish the head, you need to remove the valves, and then have the seats and valves cut. It may surprise the machine shop guys a little to see a ported 300-6 head.
