Alchymist, you really wouldn't need to use a diode on the toggle switch. I've got my reverse camera wired up pretty much the same way you are talking about exept I don't need to use a relay since it takes such a small amount of power, I just power it directly from the reverse light wire through a diode, or from Upfitter switch #4.

In your case, probably not. In other cases, the toggle switch may feed other things besides the light - in which case the extra diode prevents the backup circuit from backfeeding the toggle switch circuit. Each hookup is different, your mileage may vary...............besides diodes are cheap, and when in doubt ----
Is there any particular diode that works better than others? I have an interference problem between the LED dimmer control for my gauges and the stepper motor for the EGT gauge. I was thinking about putting a fliter on the power to the gauges but this may work too.
Wired two 12volt work lights(off a garbage truck) directly from trailer plug ran 14 ga wire and mounted lights to trailer hitch frame.Work great and cheap like $ 12.00 each.

I guess it could backfeed if you had the toggle switch closed and then shifted into reverse, but it really shouldn't be a problem unless you got the toggle switch power from a realy strange location. But yeah, diodes are cheap and easy to use.
