2v cleveland means the head's have 2 valves per cylinder, so one for intake and one for exhaust.

4v cleveland means there are 4 valves per cylinder, 2 for intake and 2 for exhaust.

More Air + Fuel = More power.

2v and 4v on older vehicles have nothing to do with the amount of valves per cylinder as they do in some later models. It refers to the number of venturis in the carburetor. The a 2 barrel or a 4 barrel.

A quick answer: 2V Clevelands are generally lower compression engines, but best described as smaller ports than the 4V, and no quench design cylinder head chamber. 2V's have an open chamber design, except for Australian 302C heads.

Blocks are pretty much identical. Exceptions are Boss 351, CJ, and H.O. engines that are machined for 4 bolt mains, but other engines can be machined the same way by any engine shop. (just buy the 4 bolt caps)

Google the internet for specs and other details. The article above may have all you need; I haven't looked at it.

the port sizes in the heads are the largest diff.

here is a exhaust gasket for my 4V Boss 351 clone engine held against a header i ordered for my truck thinking it might fit (header was 400/351M)
as you can see, there is NO way this header would work on my 4V heads.
for a truck, you are either stuck with stock manifolds or have headers built/modified.

here is a picture of the intake ports when i was fixing oil leaks:

(i stopped using the cheap valley pan style gaskets after this)

also, '72 and newer 4v engines are low compression as well... as are the 71-newer 4v cj's. Sad but true. Only the 70-71 4v heads are closed chamber...and 70 boss...not sure if they (boss) are different than the cj heads.

351 4v heads are race ready from the factory...only ford didn't take advantage of it at all.... amazing...but given the time and smog etc they settled to make decent power. Since they were designed in the 60's in a time where power was important they were made to rock&roll and shut up the mopar freaks....didn't get the chance. the rods are good up past 400hp as is the crank and 2 bolt blocks are said to be as strong as the 4 bolt. Still, the 351c 4v, cj and boss make me smile in a major way.

they challenged the big blocks on the track and held their own
