how to convert 6v wiper motor to 12v on 1950 f1 truck
Has anyone done this rather than go with different setup? I'm in the process of a full 12v conversion, and at the end realized that I still need to do the wiper motor. Will it work on 12v or how did you convert it? Or what do you do just rely on rainx? thanks, Kurt

I'm sure this is a silly question, but I've gotta ask anyway - are you positive that your wipers are electric and not vacuum? To the best of my knowledge, electric wipers weren't available until 1951 and then only on the 6 cylinder trucks. If they are electric, do you know if it's a retrofitted '51-'52 setup or is it an aftermarket rig?
In any case, my recommendation if they are really 6V electric wipers would be to invest in a solid state voltage reducer rated to handle the current of the wiper motor. Avoid resistor type reducers as higher current draw items like motors will cause them to get excessively hot and the voltage output will be unstable.

Here's a link to the type of solid state voltage reducer that I prefer. This one is a 20 Amp unit, so it should be plenty large enough to power your wipers and your heater blower motor as well.

Hi Ben, thanks for the compliment and info and your's is awesome as well! The truck was owned for 30 years by a school in AZ, and I have pics showing the flatbed when it was new LOL. I'll post a couple more pics today. I've installed a 302/c4 and adapted it to the factory rear. I have a 9 inch rear later I'll install. The 302 is painted up to look old with 289 badges lol. I have the frontend off as I'm completing everything. Praying I can get the project finished by March! This stuff takes me forever to get done. Kurt

12 volt wipers
Kurt
My 51 came with a flathead V8 and electric wipers.
I tried to get my 6 volt wiper motor to work but it was in bad shape. I converted the wiper system to work with a 2000 Jeep Grand Cherokee wiper motor.
I made a new mount and extended some of the linkage.
I test fitted it to the cab and it works well. Got to finish a lot more stuff before permanently installing it. It really wasn't that hard. Here are photos.
Take care
Dan
